We are pleased to report that Mar Azul under 12s (Alevines) managed a fantastic result against a strong and capable Kings College team in a competitive game played on the Kings College pitch near to Roldan in Murcia. On a hot afternoon the Mar Azul team got into their stride quickly and almost went ahead after five minutes when Ashley Bell-Jones’ strike was saved on the line by the Kings College goal keeper.
With skipper, Paige Pickford marshalling the team from the back, Mar Azul pushed forward for most of the first half and only some inspired goal keeping meant that the score was equal at nil – nil at half time. Mar Azul started the second half strongly and got an early break when TJ Treagust side footed into the bottom right hand corner of the Kings College net.
Shortly afterwards it was two – nil. Some great work down the right hand side by James Brown led to a cross which was duly converted by the lively TJ Treagust. Kings then came back strongly putting the Mar Azul defence under a lot of pressure. James Wilson-Pestell was being given a lot to do in the Mar Azul goal and eventually a powerful drive to the top right hand corner of the goal put Kings back in the game at two – one.
Mar Azul were now defending desperately. Cortni Serwotka putting in many important tackles to keep Kings at bay and Sam Smith keeping a cool head under pressure. With three minutes left to play the ball fell to Jordan Turner who had been a thorn in the side of Kings College all afternoon with his high work rate. He picked his spot and knocked the ball into the roof of the Kings College net to seal the game. Aaron Barcoe and Ivo Thomas also played important parts in this impressive team performance.
Both teams can be extremely proud of the sporting way in which the game was played and the high levels of skill and effort. Mar Azul School would like to thank Kings College for their wonderful hospitality and we look forward to further sporting competitions in the future.
